The Kids’ Favorites This Week:
Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall is a story of bravery. Jabari needs to conquer his fear of jumping off the high dive with the help of his wise father.
The Adventures of Beetle: The Unimaginary Friend by Dan Santat is a Caldecott Medal winner. Beetle the imaginary friend is looking for his first friend.
Rufus The Writer by Elizabeth Bram and Chuck Groenink is about a boy who sets up a story stand instead of a lemonade stand. An amazing story to get kids motivated to be a writer.
The Fantastic Undersea Life of Jacques Cousteau by Dan Yaccarino. This beautifully illustrated book tells the life and accomplishments of Jacques Cousteau. It resonated well with my son who has much in common with Jacques’ early years of being a sickly young boy who gained strength from swimming in the sea.
Robinson by Peter Sis is a book of forgiveness and imagination. When a boy dresses up as Robinson Crusoe instead of a pirate like all of his friends he is teased and humiliated. His friends come to apologize and what happens next is truly beautiful.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by JK Rowling
